NS Roundtable reports

Over the course of 2010, the NS6 network held five international roundtables which led to the generation of five reports (the picture represents one of those reports). These roundtables were the focal point of the NS6 research process, and provided valuable opportunities to explore and refine the elements of the New Synthesis Framework. A New Synthesis of Public Administration

A New Synthesis of Public Administration is now available to order. It builds upon the findings of an international research network involving over 200 senior officials from government, business and academia in six partner countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, the Netherlands, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. It is dedicated to helping prepare governments to face the challenges of serving in the 21st century.

The New Synthesis Project has been supported by an international collaborative research network, called the NS6. It drew on the knowledge and experience of innovators and leaders from the world of practice and academe from six countries and 23 organizations.

Coalition Urged to Move Fast With Deep Cuts to Halt Finance Crisis

In Canada, which the IFG and the Tory party have studied in detail, 20 per cent cuts in public spending were implemented swiftly in the mid-1990s and the deficit went down to zero within three years. Jocelyne Bourgon, Cabinet Secretary for the Canadian Civil Service in the 1990s, visited London this week to brief officials about the experience. Ms Bourgon, who helped to lead the changes, has said: “It is preferable to move expeditiously. It creates hope at the end of the tunnel.”

PGI is proudly contributing to setting up the Institude for Government, an organization dedicated to supporting the learning needs of political leaders, parliamentarians and senior public servants.

Proudly Partnering with Finland - Looking Ahead Anticipating Public Issues

Finland has introduced many exemplary practices . This work is intended to provide advice on how to stay at the leading edge to anticipate emerging issues, and initiate proactive interventions.

Working with the OECD

PGi is contributing to the work of the OECD in governance. In particular it is exploring how best to conduct integrated public governance reviews taking a whole of government perspective. This work will draw from the work of PGI in Ireland in 2008 and from recent work in other countries.

The President of PGI is the project leader of this original way of conducting practical research in public administration.
